Russia’s Winter Olympics Hot Topic For Gay Rights [Photo]
With Russia hosting the Winter Olympics in Sochi in the next six months, the country’s recent anti-gay propaganda law have been thrust into the limelight. The strict law bans public discussion of gay rights and relationships anywhere that minors might happen to hear it. The problem with the law lies in its enforcement which is obscure and vaguely defined. Something as simple as wearing a rainbow colored T-shirt holds the possibility of being arrested. Russia’s stance towards the LGBT community has drawn considerable criticism from human right advocacy groups as well from President Obama who stated “nobody’s more offended than me” by the anti-gay legislation “you’ve been seeing in Russia” during a White House news conference this past Friday.
