‘Mona Lisa’ Skeleton To Be DNA Tested [Photo]


Researchers in Florentine will be excavating the family tomb of Lisa Gherardini Del Giocondo who is long thought to be the muse of Da Vinci’s world famous Mona Lisa portrait. Last year excavators discovered skeletons in the basement of a former Ursuline convent in Florence where Lisa Gherardini is presumed to have been buried after become a nun following her husband’s death. Scientists will attempt to ascertain the family connection of the remains by additionally checking DNA from the remains of Gherardini’s two sons.
