EVO 2013 Fighting Game Tournament Starts Today [Photo]
The Evolution Championship Series known as “EVO” is the largest fighting game tournament in the world, and it’s back again this year taking place overweekend in Las Vegas. The competition brings together the world’s top ranked virtual fighters in a myriad of different titles to prove who’s the strongest in front of thousands in attendance and millions at home as the battles are streamed out over the internet. The games even have live dedicated commentators that do a phenomenal job of helping a novice understand what’s going on moment by moment as a lot of fights move super fast and get pretty hectic. Some of the game franchises featured at EVO are Super Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and a brand new addition I’m very excited for, Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers Melee. Smash Brothers was voted into the tournament by fans last year by raising the most money towards a charity. In most cases watching somebody else play video games sounds pretty boring, you’d obviously want to just play yourself; but watching true fighting game masters go head to head is honestly something that needs to be seen to be believed. Every year there is usually a reel of amazing moments that come out of the hyper-competitive event. You can read more about the EVO tournament on their website shoryuken.com and follow links to the live streams, or head straight to Twitch and find it there. The first matches start today at 8am PST which translates to 11am on the East Coast the whole thing will run from July 12-14 so Check out the schedule below to see when your favorite games are being played and then quickly come to the realization that you’re not as good at Street Fighter as you thought you were.
