Serena Williams Catches Heat And Apologizes For Rape Victim Comments?!
“What happened in Steubenville was a real shock for me,” Williams wrote on her blog. “I was deeply saddened. For someone to be raped, and at only sixteen, is such a horrible tragedy! For both families involved – that of the rape victim and of the accused. I am currently reaching out to the girl’s family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article.”
“What was written – what I supposedly said – is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame,” she wrote.
“I have fought all of my career for women’s equality, women’s equal rights, respect in their fields – anything I could do to support women I have done. My prayers and support always goes out to the rape victim. In this case, most especially, to an innocent sixteen year old child.” – nypost
No. 1 ranked tennis player Serena Williams went straight from the top (winning the French Open) to the bottom hitting headlines for a errant comment in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine! Deadspin got the break on the story, as she spoke about a 16-year old Steubenville, OH resident that was raped and even worse had pics put up of her naked on social media networks! She was drunk and two players from the local football team (Trent Mays and Ma’Lik Richmon) had the best of her in March, and of course the peculiarity of the story made it enormous in the news! Serena did apologize and felt her words were taken out of context; she is an advocate for women’s rights! Check out details above!
