Vernon Wells celebrates with Lyle Overbay

Vernon Wells (l.) celebrates with teammate Lyle Overbay (r.) after hitting a crucial two-run homerun in the first inning of last night’s game at Coors Field in Colorado.

“Playing third base with Mariano Rivera on the mound. That most likely is never going to happen again,’’ said Wells, who never played third base at any level but looked smooth fielding Carlos Gonzalez’s grounder in the ninth for the second out. “It was one of the cooler moments of my career.’’ – nypost

”Once Boesch was called safe, I was like a little kid just jumping around,” said Wells, who also added a two-run homer in the first. ”Then I quickly stopped when I realized, `OK, I’ve got to go play third.’ I’ve got to get my head together.” – foxsports
