Big Blue News: Giants Trade Up For ‘Cuse QB Nassib!

Syracuse v USC

“If he doesn’t ever play that would be great,’’ general manager Jerry Reese said. “That’s a good problem to have.’’ – nypost

“When (USC’s Matt) Barkley went (to open the fourth round), we were like, ‘Wow, this guy is not going to be there,’ ” Reese said of his original fourth-round pick at 116th overall. “To be honest, we thought the kid would probably get picked in the second row (on our board) and he is there in the fourth row, still on the board.”

“We didn’t have Barkley rated as high,” Reese later added. “(Nassib has) got the arm strength. We like the accuracy about him. We like that ‘it’ factor on him. When I first watched him he reminded me of the quarterback at Cincinnati (Andy Dalton) that played at TCU.” – espn

n a surprising move, the NY Giants traded up six spots to fetch Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib in the fourth round of the NFL Draft today! The Giants traded fourth round picks and a sixth round pick (No. 187) to the Arizona Cardinals to move up six spots (No. 116 to No. 110) to fetch the young talent! Nassib has modeled his game around soon-to-be protege starting quarterback Eli Manning, and coach Tom Coughlin is an alum himself! Manning is 32 years old and will need a predecessor in a few years! Also, check out details below on the Giants first round (No. 19) pick OT Justin Pugh, who ironically is from Syracuse as well!

Justin Pugh Syracuse

“It was surreal,’’ said Pugh, clearly excited about coming to the Giants. “I saw that 201 number I knew who that was. It was crazy. Coach Coughlin said, ‘Welcome to the Giants.’ It was amazing.’’

Tom Coughlin said he was sold on Justin Pugh after the very first question he asked him: Who is the most famous Syracuse alum you’re most familiar with?

“He didn’t say Jim Brown,’’ the Giants coach said last night, beaming. “He said ‘Coughlin.’ ’’ – nypost

he NY Giants selected Syracuse offensive tackle Justin Pugh as the No. 19 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft 2013 Thursday night! The Giants offensive line is ok, but they were obviously looking for an upgrade! After three went in the first four picks, the Giants felt that Pugh was the best fit!  Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin is coincidentally a ‘Cuse alum, and adores the system of coaching at the institution!
