Ouch: Mets’ Ace Santana May Have Career-Ending Surgery?!

Johan Santana shoulder injury

“If this diagnosis proves to be correct, I think in all likelihood Johan will be lost to the Mets for the season,” Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said.

“What we do know is at some point symptoms appeared and they worsened instead of improved,” Alderson said. “At this point we simply don’t know when this occurred.” – nypost

Knicks Amar’e surgery may have him back before Playoffs?!

ce Johan Santana who delivered the Amazin’ Mets first no-hitter last season is having surgery that may end not only his season, but his entire career?! Santana was experiencing weakness in his shoulder during Spring Training, and a follow-up MRI exam revealed that Santana probably has a re-tear of the anterior capsule of the left shoulder; his pitching arm! The time of the re-tear is uncertain, as Santana went on the DL last August due to back stiffness a couple months after pitching the heroic no-hitter, and starting rehabbing it in the winter. The injury was probably inflamed, and went unnoticed. The reason it may be a career-ending injury is because most pitchers don’t come back from one surgery of this variety, forget about two! Santana, 34, was in the final year of his mega $137.5 Million contract with the Mets, and now his future is quite uncertain! Because his contract was not insured the Mets owe him the entire $31 Million for this season! In case, he never suits up again (in a Mets uniform), check out his heroic no-hitter highlights on video below!
