Coming Out: Former Niner Kwame Harris Talks Openly About Being Gay!

Kwame Harris comes out

“I want people, whether gay athletes, athletes still in the closet, or youths who are not sure what their sexuality is to know those are common feelings,” Harris said. “Don’t feel alone in having them.”

“You want to escape the despair and turmoil and your mind goes to dark places,” Harris said of keeping his sexuality secret. “I’m happy today, and I’m glad they were just ideas and I didn’t act on any of them.”

“The cost was great (to) not speak candidly (and be) open about myself in complete manner,” he added. “If I could have done it differently, I would have hoped I found the strength (to come out).” – cnn

“I don’t do the gay guys, man,” Culliver is quoted as saying. “I don’t do that. No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do.” – huffpost

Brendon Ayanbadejo Supreme court

“The religious roots are a lot deeper in basketball and football,” Ayanbadejo told the publication. “With that being said, I think baseball players are more open minded.” – huffpost

oming Out: In an exclusive interview with CNN, former San Francisco 49er offensive tackle and six-year veteran of the NFL Kwame Harris spoke about being gay, and why he didn’t come out while playing in the NFL! Just before the Super Bowl XLVII Niners’ cornerback Chris Culliver absconded the idea of a gay person in the NFL (quote above), and earlier in the week Baltimore Ravens’ linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo spoke to the press about how a baseball player is most likely to come out first due to strong religious connections in the NFL and NBA (quote above)! Ayanbadejo also spoke outside the Supreme court for gay and lesbian same sex marriage rights! Harris was once highly recruited in the NFL: he was selected as the No. 26 pick and No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2003 NFL Draft! He started to become problematic with repetitive penalty and blocking issues. On Jan. 2013, Harris was charged with felony assault on his then “boyfriend” Dimitri Geier stemming from an incident in August 21, 2012.
