Dice, the developers of the BattleField series, unveiled game play footage for their latest iteration, Battlefield 4, earlier this week. The game’s publisher, Electronic Arts, started gunning (no pun intended) for the top spot on online multi-player boards with BattleField 3, going so far as publicly challenging their biggest competitor, Modern Warfare, in terms of game quality. They ultimately lost that battle (still no pun intended) namely due to introducing a lackluster single player campaign, which had never existed in the previously multi-player only games. Aside from that BattleField 3 still excelled at large scale team based military combat in a way that Modern Warfare does not with its frenetic close quarters style of combat.

This reveal trailer however is emphasizing the single player campaign and I have to say that I’m quite impressed with what they’ve shown. The new Frostbite 3 engine is absolutely gorgeous. BattleField 4 has been formally announced for next gen systems so Playstation 4, whatever Microsoft gets around to announcing, and PC. (Sorry Wii-U you don’t really count.) Expect it sometime this holiday season.
