D.R. wins WBC Championship over Puerto Rico

Yankees' Robinson Cano won the World Baseball Classic MVP Award.

Yankees’ Robinson Cano won the World Baseball Classic MVP Award.

The Dominican Republic, who persevered heroically over Team USA in Miami late last week, won the WBC (World Baseball Classic) 3-0 over Puerto Rico at AT&T Park in San Francisco last night! It is a great honor for D.R., and a lot of MLB players showed pride in their country at the classic! Tomorrow will be a national holiday in D.R.! After the triumphant win over Puerto Rico, former MLB player and D.R. baseball representative Tony Pena hoisted the Championship trophy for all the players to give kisses (video below), and Yankee Robinson Cano passed around his cell phone to his Dominican teammates to receive congratulations from D.R. president Danilo Medina! D.R. did not waste any time in this Championship game; Edwin Encarnacion broke it open in the first inning putting two runs on the board with a two-RBI double! Cano was selected as the 2013 WBC MVP! For Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, etc. baseball is a thing of beauty, pride, and pure nationalism; in America is has turned into a big money-media game and lost some of its meaning along the way! Check out highlights from the game and the trophy presentation and celebration on video below!
