Team USA Loses to Dominican Republic at WBC, Faces Elimination! [Video]

Dominican Republic USA South Beach

NY Mets-Team USA David Wright is out with broken ribs?!

Couldn’t have written a better script to the South Beach classic… the Dominican Republic beats Team USA in front of a jam-packed crowd (34,366 fans) at Marlins Park in Miami! The Dominican Republic beat Team USA 3-1 last night in the World Baseball Classic! D.R. is now undefeated and advancing to the Championship round, while Team USA (with Skipper Joe Torre) is facing elimination, and must square off against Puerto Rico again tonight! Team USA did beat Puerto Rico 7-1 in their first meeting, but added losses to Italy and now D.R. to put them into the elimination round! A lot of Miami natives are from Dominican Republic and a lot of the Dominican Republic players play MLB! In fact, the top talents actually represented their countries (like D.R.), while Team USA got a lot of second tier type players on the squad! The win meant a lot more to D.R. and Miami than it would have meant to Team USA! Check out the video and the play by play below…

The game was close with Team USA making the first strike by walking in a run with bases loaded in the first inning! D.R. struck right back in the second inning with a Hanley Ramirez solo blast off of Blue Jay (former Mets) pitcher R.A. Dickey! The game was tied up until the ninth inning when Eric Aybar singled to right to score Nelson Cruz (who reached base on a double), and then former Met Jose Reyes singled in Eric Aybar making it 3-1 D.R.!
