Women’s History Month: Shonda Rhimes [American Screenwriter, Director& Producer]



Shonda Rhimes was born on January 13, 1970. Shonda is best known as the head writer, creator and executive producer of medical drama and political thriller television series, Grey Anatomy and Scandal. She was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People who help shape the world.

Shonda attended Dartmouth College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in directing and performing in plays. After college, she moved to San Francisco and obtained a job in advertising. Shonda soon relocated to Los Angeles to attend USC to study screenwriting. Ranked at the top of her class she earned the prestigious Gary Rosenberg Writing Fellowship Award. She later earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television.

She is currently the creator, executive producer and head writer of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
