Lakers Pay Tribute to Dr. Jerry Buss, Roll Over the Celtics! [Video]

“It was very fitting,” Bryant said. “You look at all the trophies, parades and support this team has — that all came from one man. The impact is a global one.” – espn

“We play basketball, but there are things in life that are important,” Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said before the game. “This is important. You need to be able to put things in perspective and go out and do your job like everybody else does. I think it was treated in the right way and the players are ready to roll.” – espn

LA Lakers’ star Kobe Bryant kicked off the Wednesday night contest against the Boston Celtics with an invigorating speech for the late Dr. Jerry Buss, who passed away at 80 years old on Monday. Kobe pointed to the former owner’s vacant seat, and paused for a moment of silence. Then, the audio from a February 16, 2011 interview with Buss came rose heavenly from the speakers. A video tribute followed with Green Day’s “Time of Your Life” in the background, which displayed photos of Buss from birth to his Laker owner days, including him hoisting the Larry O’Brien Championship trophies along the way, and getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; fashioned with his trademark smile. Buss’ daughter Jeannie Buss, Lakers’ executive vice president of player personnel, stood in the front with former Laker Kurt Rambis and his wife Linda. The video concluded with Buss’ HOF Speech, “Life is good, life is sweet and I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.” The Lakers went on to beat the long-time rival Boston Celtics, 113-99, last night behind Dwight Howard’s 24 points and 12 boards, and Kobe 16 points.
