Yankees Arrive for Spring Training!

Yankees Spring Training

Mariano Rivera, C.C. Sabathia, and Derek Jeter arrive for Spring Training in Tampa, Florida.

He wore No. 42, and appeared lean and regal, and his mere presence in late morning on the back diamonds of Yankee spring training initiated calls of “Mariano, Mariano” from fans stationed behind the fences that encase George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Yet the first day of work for pitchers and catchers still elicited this question:

Is that Mariano Rivera?

On first glance, it sure looked like Rivera. But there was something different in his gait as he went through a 25-pitch bullpen session and fielding drills.

It was not overt — no dragging leg or dramatic limp — and you might not have noticed without intense scrutiny. But, of course, we are in the intense scrutiny portion of Rivera’s program since he blew out his ACL last May 3 and is the lone player in any major league camp born in the 1960s. – nypost

Kevin Youkilis Yankees

On his first day with the team at spring training, the new Yankees third baseman said, “I’ll always be a Red Sox.”

“To negate all the years I played for the Boston Red Sox, and all the  tradition, you look at all the stuff I have piled up at my house and to say I’d just throw it out the window, it’s not true,” Youkilis said.

“I’ll never be Alex Rodriguez,” Youkilis said. “He’s one of the best hitters of all time. I can be a good major-league hitter and help this team win.” – nypost

NY Yankees’ Jeter, Pettitte, CC, Mo, and newbie Youk arrived for Spring Training in Tampa, Fl at George M. Steinbrenner Field with smiles and high spirits! Jeter was moving around pretty well, running for the first time since breaking his ankle, and should be ready by opening day! NY Yankees acquisition from the Boston Red Sox, Kevin Youkilis AKA Youk, and sure HOF reliever Mariano Rivera AKA Mo both were excited about a new beginning! Youk, 33, is enjoying the opportunity but said he will always be a Red Sock, and is not A-Rod; even though he is replacing the injured star! Mo, the ageless reliever (coming off torn ACL surgery), wore his #42 jersey with pride, threw 25 pitches, and was running around fielding grounders like a teenager! Check out commentary on Mo and Youk’s comments above!
