King Felix Cops Mega-Deal!

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Seattle Mariners

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez AKA King Felix agreed to a record-setting five year contract extension worth $135.5 Million – in total a seven year contract worth $175 Million! The Mariners locked the former 2010 AL Cy Young winner until 2019, and put him out of reach for the NY Yankees! Felix will make $39.5 Million over the next two years, and $27.1 Million for each year of the five year contract extension! The only MLB pitcher to make more in a single season was former Yankee ace Roger Clemens who landed a $28 Million prorated salary in 2007! Also Felix can also get bonuses and escalators in his contract: Hernandez agreed to a $78 million, five-year contract in January 2010, and has earned an additional $2.5 million in escalators and $300,000 in bonuses, espn. He is one of the most dominant pitchers in the game winning 18.3% of the times on the mound; second only to Tigers’ Justin Verlander with 20.4% (chart below)!

Mighty Important to Mariners

Since 2006, Hernandez has accounted for 18.3 percent of Seattle’s wins, second-most in the majors behind the Tigers’ Justin Verlander. Here’s a look:
