Let The Games Begin: NFL Coaches That Got Fired!

Bears coach Lovie Smith and Eagles coach Andy Reid both got fired on Monday morning.

“I think it’s going to be a sad day at Halas Hall,” Bears QB Jay Cutler said. “I have a lot of respect for the guy. He’s made friends with a lot of the players. He’s a players’ coach. I think right now I’m a little surprised, a little sad. Wish I could have done more offensively to help him out.” – espn

“Andy Reid won the most games of any head coach in Eagles history and he is someone I respect greatly and will remain friends with for many years to come,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. “But, it is time for the Eagles to move in a new direction. Coach Reid leaves us with a winning tradition that we can build upon. And we are very excited about the future.” – espn

“Although he helped guide us to two consecutive AFC Championship Games, we are not where we want to be, and a new General Manager will be critical to getting this team back on the right track,” Jets owner Woody Johnson said in the statement.espn

Let the Games Begin! Some NFL teams didn’t waste anytime ridding themselves of “Inadequacies”! In fact, the last regular game of the season was on Sunday! Even though the Chicago Bears posted a 10-6 record and won yesterday, they canned their head coach Lovie Smith! The Philadelphia Eagles fired their head coach Andy Reid after a (4-12) season record! The NY Jets also followed suit (after a 6-10 season), and fired their GM Mike Tannenbaum! Also, the San Diego Chargers fired their head coach Norv Turner and GM AJ Smiththe KC Chiefs fired their head coach Romeo Crennel after 2-12 record, the Cleveland Browns fired their head coach Pat Shurmur and GM, and the Buffalo Bills fired their head coach Chan Bailey!

Lovie Smith coached eight seasons for the Bears, and they missed the Playoffs five out of the last six seasons despite starting each season 7-1! The Bears only made it to the Super Bowl in 2006 under Smith. Smith’s contract was up, and there was no indication of negotiations, so the warning signs were there.

Andy Reid coached for the Eagles for over 14 seasons! Reid was set to make $6 Million in 2013, and is expected to pick up a coaching job elsewhere. Reid was already looking for other coaching jobs, and may end up coaching for the San Diego Chargers. Reid posted a solid 130-93 record, but starting slipping in the last few seasons. After the Eagles finished 4-12, it seemed time to go seperate ways.
