‘Cuse Coach Boeheim Gets 900 Wins, Advocates Gun Control!
“If we cannot get the people who represent us to do something about firearms, we are a sad, sad society,” Boeheim said Monday night. “If one person in this world, the NRA president, anybody, can tell me why we need assault weapons with 30 shots – this is our fault if we don’t go out there and do something about this. If we can’t get this thing done, I don’t know what kind of country we have.”
“To me, it’s just a number,” said Boeheim, whose first victory was against Harvard in 1976. “If I get 900, have I got to get more? That’s why maybe it’s just not that important to me because to me it’s just a number, and the only number that matters is how this team does.” – nypost
NCAA Division I Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim got his 900th career win, and gave an invigorating speech w/ final remarks on victims of the Newtown, Conn. shooting! His basic message was: Gun control must supercede accomplishment, and needs more public awareness. Third-ranked Syracuse beat Detroit 72-68 in the Gotham Classic last night, and remain a perfect (10-0) so far this season! ‘Cuse has won 30 straight games dating back to last season, longest in the nation! Boeheim became only the third Division I coach to join the exclusive 900 club: Mike Krzyzewski (936) and Bob Knight (902)! Boeheim, 68, started coaching the Orangemen in 1976, and posted an amazing 900-304 record over that time!
