Marquez Pounds Pacquiao w/ Sixth Round KO! [Photo] [Video]
“I knew Manny could knock me out at any time,” Marquez said. “I threw the perfect punch.”
“We always work on that [counter right]. The change in rhythm was important. We knew he was going to come out aggressive, so we had a fight plan that was more technique and we were able to capitalize on it. We knew it would be a very difficult fight, but not an impossible fight. We had to use our technique and skill and we didn’t allow Manny to connect as he had done.”
“He caught me with my hand down,” Pacquiao said. “That was an error and we corrected it. We worked strength, we worked speed and you can see the result.”

Juan Manual Marquez knocked out Manny ‘Pac-man’ Pacquiao with a vicious counterpunch (2:59) in the sixth round of the (12-round) welterweight bout at the sold-out MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, last night! Pacquiao missed a right, and Marquez countered with a huge straight right to the chin that put Pacquiao on the canvas for good! Marquez actually connected one second before the bell sounded to end the (sixth) round! Marquez also knocked down Pacquiao in the third round! Pacquiao responded and knocked down Marquez in the fifth round, and was ahead on the judge’s scorecard 47-46 at the time of the surprise counter punch! Marquez put an end to an eight-year four bout rivalry, and showed disbelievers that he is for real! Check out the KO right below, and a full pic gallery at the bottom of the page!
This fight was dubbed Marquez-Pacquiao 4; in the previous three bouts Pacquiao won two-of-three by decision. Marquez believed that he won those fights, and didn’t let it go to the scorecard this time around. Pacquiao was a 2-to-1 favorite, his record dropped to (54-5-2, 38 KOs), and Marquez improved to (55-6-1, 40 KOs)! Overall, Marquez bulked up for the fight, and seemed to have more punching power, and Pacquiao opened up his stance to land his left more regularly. Pacquiao returned to his aggressive risky style, and snapped back with the straight right (from Marquez)!
