Lakers to honor Kareem, Shaq and ‘Silk’ Wilkes

The LA Lakers are going to honor Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) with a statue, and Shaq(uille O’Neal) and ‘Silk’ (Jamaal) Wilkes AKA Jamaal Abdul-Lateef by retiring their jerseys! The Lakers will unveil Kareems’ statue at the Staples Center’s Star Plaza on Nov. 16; he will join the likes of Magic Johnson, Jerry West, and broadcaster Chick Hearn. The Lakers will retire Wilkes’ No. 52 jersey on Dec. 28th, and Shaqs’ No. 34 jersey on April 2. Kareem is still currently the NBA career scoring leader, and won five of his six NBA Championships with the Lakers! Wilkes spent seven seasons with the Lakers (1977-85), won three of his four NBA Championships there, and was elected to the HOF earlier this year! Shaq won three consecutive NBA Championships (2000-02) during his eight-year stay (1996-04) with the Lakers, and retired fifth on the NBA career scoring leader charts!
