NY athletes go for the Gold! Olympics Update!

The silver boys (l. to r.) Nathan Adrian, Lochte, Cullen Jones and Phelps.

“The amount of pressure that’s put on me is a lot more than in 2008,” Jones said. “It’s a lot more meaningful. … I know that people are expecting me to step up and do my part.

“I love being on the relays, but being in an individual event just (means) so much to me.” – usatoday

#CullenJonesSilver Cullen Jones born in #BX, raised in Irvington #Jersey, got his first (Silver) medal of the #LondonOlympics2012 on Sunday night; he swam the third leg of the 4×100 free relay! If teammate Ryan Lochte (who got the first #US Gold medal – 400m IM) didn’t run out of gas on the last leg; they could have easily got the Gold! For the first time, he will compete in individual events: Men’s 100 free final on Wednesday night and the 50 free final on Friday. So look out for Cullen, 28, who still has two more chances to go for the Gold! Follow him on twitter, @Cullen_Jones, and check out his webpage, www.cullenjones.com!

#LiaNealBronze Flatbush #BK Lia Neal helped the #US Women’s team to a Bronze medal in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay on Saturday night! That will conclude her run in #LondonOlympics2012, but she still has more to come. Lia is only 17 years old, and looking forward to completing her senior year at at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan! She is only the second female African-American athlete to represent #USA swimming at the #Olympics! Follow her on twitter, @LiaNeal!

“Around 13 years old, I realized I really wanted to get serious,” Orozco told People magazine. “So that’s the time when I knew, ‘Okay, I gotta turn my dreams into a  goal.'” – latinofoxnews

#OrozcoFinalEvent #PR #SouthBronx John Orozco helped the #USA Men’s gymnastic team make a statement in the Preliminary round on Saturday night! Orozco also competed with teammates: Daniel Levya, Sam Mikulak, Jake Dalton, and Jonathan Horton in the Olympic team final today! Orozco did everything except the floor exercises in the competition, but unfortunately lost a full point in the vault in pummel horse. Heavy favorite #China won the Gold, but #Orozco, 19, will have more competitions to come! Follow #Orozco on twitter, @JohnW_Orozco, check out his #BX background and City Council connections, and watch the Final on #NBC tonight!

#HerringReady Coram #LI Marine Jamel Herring is set to take on lefty Daniyar Yeleussinov, out of #Kazakhstan in the light welterweight division on Tuesday! He needs to fight carefully, as a lot of world boxers train for focal-point boxing (to get points within #Olympic boxing rules)! Follow Jamel on twitter, @JamelHerring, check out his video, and watch the bout tommorrow on #NBC; #NY Athletes going for the Gold!

#BrowneKOed #StatenIsland Marcus Browne was knocked out of the light heavyweight preliminary bout on a standing eight count in the third round on Monday morning. He was facing one of the top contenders #Australia Damien Hopper, and held a narrow 6-5 lead going into the busy third round. Follow Marcus Browne on twitter, @Marcus_Browne!

#VenusWins Venus Williams followed in her sisters footsteps and beat Sara Errani of Italy, 6-3, 6-1 Monday morning! She is going for her record fourth Gold Medal at these #Olympics! She won Gold for Singles in 2000, and doubles (with Serena) in 2000 and 2008 #Olympics! Venus quickly faded from the spotlight after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that causes fatigue about a year ago! #US Andy Roddick and John Isner also advanced to the next round!

“I was surprised,’’ Chandler told The Post. “I think it was ridiculous. It just shows – the coaches vote for that. I don’t know if they’re really paying attention on what they’re voting on. I don’t know if they just mark down the names. I don’t understand how I can win Defensive Player of the Year by the  media and get second team. The good thing is I get to play against them next year and show them why I should’ve been Defensive Player of Year and show them why I should be on the first team.’’ – nypost
