Saints coach suspended one-year for bounty hits!

“We are all accountable and responsible for player health and safety and the integrity of the game. We will not tolerate conduct or a culture that undermines those priorities,” said Goodell, whose league faces more than 20 concussion-related lawsuits brought by hundreds of former players. “No one is above the game or the rules that govern it.” – espn
“I am speechless. Sean Payton is a great man, coach, and mentor. The best there is. I need to hear an explanation for this punishment”
The #NFL suspended Saints coach, Sean Payton, for one-year for contracting bounty hits on opposing teams offensive players! The defensive coordinator, Greg Williams, was suspended indefinitely for his role with the bounty hits from 2009-2011! This is the biggest punishment thwarted by the #NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell thus far! The Saints were also fined $500K and lost their 2012 and 2013 second round draft picks!
While Saints’ QB Drew Brees was putting his face on Kelloggs boxes, his team was delivering bone-crunching hits for extra bucks! The Saints took the 2009-2010 Super Bowl home to New Orleans, and the nation felt good about a city that was demolished in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina! In the end, the feel good didn’t feel so good for opposing players! Check out Drew Brees tweet from yesterday above!
My issue is why even implore such a system, when players are already making, on average, anywhere from $1 Million to $10 Million a season? The punishment was severe, but what about the fair competition and teams (like the Vikings) who could have gone all the way in 09-10 w/o the bounties? A similar analogy would be illegal pitbulls fighting for $$$. Do you want that sort of demeanor in the #NFL?
