Yankees sign Ibanez, trade A.J. to Pirates

The NY Yankees signed Raul Ibanez to a one-year, $1.1 Million contract plus incentives this morning, and traded see-saw pitcher A.J. Burnett to the Pirates, Sunday, for two low-level prospects and ultimately $5 Million in additional income for 2012.

Ibanez, 39, will be used primarily as a lefty DH. He can make up to $4 Million in (hitting) incentives. Ibanez played with the Phillies last season, and posted a .245 batting average with 20 HR’s and 84 RBI’s.

The Yankees acquired 25-year-old right-hander Diego Moreno and 20-year-old outfielder Exicardo Cayones, both low-level minor league prospects in the Burnett trade. The Yankees still had to pay a guaranteed $18 Million left on Burnett’s $31.1 Million contract. Ultimately, that gives the Yankees $5 Million in additional income for 2012. Good trade for the Yankees.
