Mets notorius HOF catcher Gary Carter AKA “The Kid” passed away from brain tumors on Thursday. He had been battling brain tumors since May of last year. He is most remembered for starting the rally (video below) that made the Mets World-champions in the 1986 World Series!
Carter started his career with the Montreal Expos in 1974, and was traded to the Mets in 1985. He played five years with the Mets. Carter was an 11-time All-Star; hit .262 with 324 home runs and 1,225 RBI in his 19-year career with the Expos, Mets, Giants, and Dodgers. He was enshrined in the HOF in 2003 (w/ the Expos), became a broadcaster for the Florida Marlins, coached and managed for the Mets minor league teams, managed two independent minor league teams, and coached in college.
R.I.P. respects to “The Kid”, who wore his heart on his sleeve, and made miracles happen for the Mets.
