Cardinals visit White House! #Obama

The ‘heroic’ champion St Louis Cardinals were honored at the White House on Tuesday! #Obama dubbed them, “the greatest comeback team in the history of baseball” after their triumphant August run from 10 1/2 games back, comeback in the playoffs, stapled with “the greatest” World Series comeback! The Cardinals rallied from 10 1/2 games back in August to make the final wild-card playoff spot on the last day of the regular season. They trailed in each playoff round, and twice were one strike away from elimination in game 6 (World Series) before David Freese ‘heroic’ walk-off HR saved the day!

“That has to be one of the best baseball games of all time,” Obama said to applause and cheers as he welcomed team members in the East Room. – espn

The event led off with the celebration of first lady Michelle Obama’s 48th birthday. The Cardinals packed Obama team jerseys and souvenir bats for the Prez and first lady.

“I’m a little bit worried about giving my wife a bat,” the president joked. “If I mess up … ” – espn

Cardinals manager Tony Larussa and 1B Albert Pujols were not present. LaRussa retired right after the World Series, and Pujols signed a 10-year deal worth $240 Million with the LA Angels since then.
