#Yankees re-sign Hughes!

@SportsBata ..nuff said

#Yankees re-signed bottom rotation pitcher Phil Hughes to a one-year deal worth $3.2 Million on Monday! Hughes received a raise of $500k following an injury plagued season. He will also have $225K available in performance bonuses: $50K for 20 starts, $25K each for 23, 26, 29, 30, 31, 32, and 33 starts. Hughes, 25, was rough and inconsistent with a 5-5 record and a 5.79 ERA in 14 starts and three relief appearances last year. The Yankees just #traded #upgraded their rotation with the addition of Michael Pineda (from the Mariners) and signing of free-agent Hiroki Kuroda on Friday. Hughes will be fighting for the five spot in the rotation against Freddy Garcia and A.J. Burnett! The 1-4 rotation will go like this: C.C. Sabathia, Pineda, Ivan Nova, and Kuroda!

#Yankees are also looking at getting Hideki Matsui back, picking him up off the free-agent market! Matsui was the World Series MVP for the Yankees in 2009 (pic above), but the Yankees didn’t want to pay his high salary the following year and shipped him off! Check out the excerpt from the NY Post!

The Yankees have contacted free agent Hideki Matsui about a possible return to the team as designated hitter

“Matsui was a great fit for us last year and we all loved having him on our team,” A’s Manager Bob Melvin said at a press conference on Monday to promote the Japan Series. “But this year it doesn’t look like a fit for us based on the personnel we have going forward.” – nypost
