Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sentenced to 90 days in jail on Wednesday in Las Vegas court after pleading guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges. These charges stem from an incident in Sept 2010 when he was hair-pulling, punching, and arm-twisting with his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris in front of their two children. Mayweather has houdini’ed himself out of the courtroom before, but this time the judge felt it appropiate to serve short time. He will start his sentence on Jan 6th, and could be let go a couple of weeks early on good behavior. The May 5th contest (attempting to fight Pacquiao) is still scheduled, but may change in the next days to allow him at least the full eight weeks to train to the big event.
“Punishment is appropriate,” Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa said after a prosecutor complained that Mayweather has been in trouble before and hasn’t faced serious consequences.
“No matter who you are, you have consequences to your actions when they escalate to this level of violence,” she said. – espn
