Clippers claim Billups

The LA Clippers claimed NY Knicks’ PG Chauncey Billups off waivers Monday night! Teams were notified that the Clippers posted the winning waiver bid at 6PM Monday after the Knicks released Billups on the ‘new’ amnesty clause on Friday. The winning bid at the waiver auction was just over $2 Million, so the Knicks still have to pay $12 Million remaining on Billups contract. I don’t think the Knicks made out so well in the deal, even though it allowed the Knicks a soft salary cap to afford Chandler. If Billups passed through the waivers unsigned, he would have become an unrestricted free-agent, and would have been able to sign with the Lakers or the Heat. Check out other NY NBA action below!
Nets sign Shelden Williams
The Nets signed Knicks F Shelden Williams to a one-year deal! This 6-foot-9 Forward out of Duke averaged 4.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in five NBA seasons with six teams.
“We are pleased to add Shelden to our roster,” Nets general manager Billy King said in a statement. “He is a proven veteran who will add depth to our frontcourt rotation.” – espn
Knicks contract draft pick Jerome Jordan
The Knicks have agreed “in principle” to a contract with 7-foot C Jerome Jordan out of Jamaica. He was in practice Monday, but is waiting for the “administrative ok” from Slovenia, his recent/former European team.
The Knicks acquired the 7-foot center in a 2010 draft night trade with the Milwaukee Bucks for $500,000. The Bucks had drafted Jordan with the 44th pick.
After the draft, Jordan decided to play overseas to improve his game, signing with the Serbian club KK Hemofarm for the 2010–11 season.
“We finished negotiating and it’s just a matter of getting all the administrative work done for his buyout from his European team, his Slovenian team [Krka],” Knicks interim manager Glen Grunwald said. “…. So he should be in camp in a couple days or so, hopefully. Assuming everything goes well.” – espn
