Haynesworth traded to the Patriots

Washington Redskins DE Albert Haynesworth was traded to the New England Patriots for a 2013 fifth-round draft pick. The Redskins were happy to get rid of him. After he signed a seven-year/$100 Million contract with them in 2009, he didn’t put up good numbers (20 games, 6 1/2 sacks), slouched through the OTA’s and mini-camps, and demanded to be traded. The Redskins still owe his an NFL record $41 Million in guaranteed money. Haynesworth must still pass the physical to complete the deal. It is estimated he will still make around $5 Million for the season.

“I talked to [Redskins coach] Mike Shanahan last night and we’re in the process of acquiring Haynesworth, but that’s not complete yet, so I can’t really comment on that at this point until it’s completed — if it does get completed,” Belichick said during a news conference. “So, we’ll see how that goes.” – espn
