Japan receives warm welcome home
Japan received a warm welcome home, today! Japan’s win in the World Cup, Sunday, may have temporarily relieved the chaos survived over the past year. A Tsunami and an earthquake, followed by the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl, had left many people in Japan dead, devastated, and wounded. All the emotion the U.S. Women put out was overcame by the sentiment that Japan so strongly felt. Congratulations Japan! MVP Homare Sawa! Check out the highlight video below!
“I never felt this day would come,” team captain Homare Sawa said at a news conference, a golden medal around her neck and her Most Valuable Player award displayed in front of her.
“It’s just now setting in,” she said, beaming. “We played hard as a team. We didn’t give up.”
“This is a chance to forget the nuclear disaster and everything else, to just unite and celebrate,” said 22-year-old Toru Komatsu.
