Dirk and the Mav’s win big at the Espy’s

The NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks won the award for Best Team, coach Rick Carlisle won Best Coach/Manager, and superstar Dirk Nowitski (pic below) won Best Male Athlete and Best NBA player. LA Clippers Blake Griffin won Breakthrough Athlete. Rookie of the Year, Blake Griffin averaged 22.5 ppg and 12.1 rpg, and became the first rookie elected to the All-Star game since Yao Ming in 2003. Abby Wambach sensational header to tie Brazile (and go on to win with penalty kicks) in the 122′ minute of the quarterfinals of the World Cup, Sunday July 10, was voted in by the fans as the Best Play. The esteemed Arthur Ashe Award for Courage was awarded to Dewey Bozella, who was wrongfully incarcerated in 1983, and won his release finally in 2009. Biebs was in the building, and host Seth Myers joked on the child music prodigy, “Justin Bieber could have set himself on fire and not have had a crazier outfit than Brian Wilson”. SF Giants reliever Brian Wilson walked down the red carpet in a full-body spandex tuxedo, complete with black high-tops and a cane. Check out some of the other award recipients below!

“I’m so humbled and honored by this,” Nowitzki said. “It’s
been an unreal year for all of us on the Mavericks.” – espn
