State Farm Home Run Derby 2011!

The State Farm Home Run Derby 2011 is set for Monday, July 11 at 8PM EST ESPN! Boston Red Sox David Ortiz AKA Big Papi picked up NY Yankees’ Robinson Cano in replacement of NY Yankees’ Mark Teixeira. Big Papi is the captain of the AL squad and picked up Cano, along with Bo-sox teammate Adrian Gonzalez and Toronto Blue Jays Jose Bautista. No offense to Cano, but what about his teammate Curtis Granderson, he is tied for second in the league with 25 HR’s this season?

“He’s in,” Ortiz said Monday [about Cano replacing Big Tex]. “We talked earlier today. To put him in was a simple decision.” – espn

The NL squad is led by Milwaukee Brewers Prince Fielder who picked teammate Rickie Weeks, along with LA Dodgers Matt Kemp and St Louis Cardinals Matt Holiday. Fielder is the captain because he was the last NL player to win the Derby in 2009 (Big Papi 2010).

All the proceeds for the Home Run Derby will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of America! Check it out!

State Farm Insurance and the league will donate $18,000 for every home run hit with a gold ball. State Farm will give $3,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of America for every non-gold ball hit.

The winning captain’s charity will receive $150,000, $100,000 will go to the Boys & Girls Club in the name of the winning captain and $25,000 will be awarded to the losing captain’s charity. – bloomberg
