Jets get sure shot Wilkerson

The NY Jets did not want to take any risks, passed up Da’Quan Bowers, for sure shot local Muhammad Wilkerson. The Jets fans at Radio City (Music Hall) were chanting, “We want Bowers!” “We want Bowers!”, but the Jets made a wise choice in the sure shot Wilkerson. Bowers was the #1 pick until news spread like wild-fire about his knee. His knee needs microfracture knee surgery which means a short(er)  and more unreliable career. Wilkerson is a 6-foot-4 defensive end out of Temple who grew about 30 minutes away in Linden, N.J. He a versatile defensive end, that is a perfect fit for the Jets needs. Jets coach Rex Ryan compared him to Trevor Price. Read the quotes, courtesy foxsports:

[on Da’Quan Bowers] “Some people are very concerned,” the official said after Round 1, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “It’s a concern in terms of longevity and durability.”

[Muhammad Wilkerson] “Muhammad fits what we do defensively,” Ryan said. “He’s a guy who can line head up on a tackle and kick back inside in pass situations over a guard or the center. He’s an outstanding fit. … He was excellent in college, but we think his best is yet to come.”

“He went up against Penn State,” Ryan said. “You watch that game and you have no concerns.”
