Mariano Rivera Jr., son of Mariano Rivera, the Yankees five-time Champion closer, is trying out for the Quinnipiac University baseball team located in Connecticut, the Quinnipiac Chronicle reported Wednesday. Watch the video’s below! Read the excerpt, courtesy foxsports:

“My parents were supporting me 100 percent; they want me to go here,” Rivera told The Chronicle. “I have to prove to them that I’m ready for college and I’m on my own basically.”

The younger Rivera visited the small private university in Hamden, Conn., about 90 miles (145 kilometers) northeast of New York City, with his father in December.

“My mind was already set then,” Rivera said. “I had to show [my father]. He liked some of the stuff and he fell in love with it, from security to the people to the faculty. He liked it; he liked it a lot.”

The two reportedly met Quinnipiac baseball coach Dan Gooley during the visit as well.

Rivera, a senior at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, N.Y., acknowledged the bar for success set by his five-time World Series winning father, but said he was ready to work on leaving his own mark.

“I see that my father and I are two different people,” Rivera said. “He is a pro and I’m his son, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be just as good as him. I’m working on being the best that I can be, so we’ll see how far that takes me.”
