Messi eclipsing soccer Legend

Lionel Messi has set the record for Barcelona, scoring his 48th goal of the season. He also helped Barcelona advance to the Champion League Semifinals with the 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, yesterday. Ronaldo and Messi himself held the club record of 47 goals. If Messi, only 23 yrs old, gets one more goal (with 10 games left), he will tie Spain’s record of 49 goals set by the late Ferenc Puskas. [Puskas, scored 47 goals for Real Madrid in 1959-60 and also had two goals in the International Cup, giving him 49 total.] Coincidentally, Barcelona and Messi are set to take on Real Madrid on Saturday. Barcelona goaltender Victor Valdes told the AP:

“Messi gives us a lot more than just goals. He supports the team in defense and in attack. His work helps everyone.”
