Jessie J Debut Hits the U.S.

Jessie J’s debut album has finally hit U.S. soil!

Jessie J, for those of you who are new to the British songstress, is an accomplished songwriter. She penned Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA,” Britney Spears’ “Being Britney” and a few other top pop songs.

Finally focusing on herself, Jessie J released her debut album, Who You Are, last month in the UK. It debuted at #2 and has already gone platinum. The album is also in the Top 30 in 17 countries and has reached Top 5 in numerous markets around the world.

Today, April 12th, the album is available in the US. Finally, we get to see and hear more of what the world has been buzzing about.

This Freshman female artist and diva is the type of vocalist we’ve been longing for, for some time.

This is not to say that we don’t have amazing artists already doing their thing, but it is nice to see an outstanding artist emerge straight out of the gate.

It seems that the most amazing and unique artists throughout the decades have been British – The Beatles, Billy Idol, David Bowie, Phil Collins, Elton John, ColdPlay, Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, VV Brown, Marsha Ambrosius, Adele and now Jessie J.

The British Takeover, clearly, has not ceased. These artists are so outstanding because they fight so hard to not only make a name for themselves in the UK, but in the great U-S-A and the U.S. pop music charts.

Coming back to Jessie J though, her swag and undeniable vocal range has gotten her this far, and this is only the beginning. For anyone unfamiliar with her, I can do my best to compare her to some familiar artists. She has a style like Rihanna, cooky and wild presence like Nicki Minaj and a unique vocal quality like Chrisette Michele. All this, and the girl is white. This proves that soul is in your heart, not your complexion.

Again, her album, Who You Are, is in stores today in the United States. Get it on iTunes or go pick up a tangible copy. It feels like CD’s are making a comeback anyway, wouldn’t you say? @SelenaBailey
