Mayhem in women’s boxing
Devastating and strange, a German phenom female boxer, Rola El-Halabi, was shot in hands, knees, and feet by her father, Roy El-Halabi, over the weekend. Rola (11-0) was in the dressing room preparing to fight Irma Balijagic Adler for the vacant IBF lightweight title. Rola’s father was her manager until he was fired in January. He cleared out the dressing room, shot two security guards, shot and almost killed Rola, and now possibly ruined Rola’s career. This also occurred in a separate scenario in November, there must be a “Selena’s Curse” amongst the female boxing community. “Selena” was a Mexican-American singer who was tragically killed by her manager, who was caught stealing and fired nights prior.
Rola El-Halabi told the German daily: “Papa rushed into the room. He threatened us with a gun in his hand and shouted ‘Everyone out!’ And then he shot me in the hand from 3 meters. I cried and screamed.”
