Yankees respond to “too old” comment
The Yankees have responded to Cliff Lee’s comment about the Yankees being “too old”, the NY Post reported Tuesday. I know Cliff Lee is hickory dickory dock, but why blow up the Yankees spot? The Yankees were trying to pick him up in Nov/Dec, but the Phillies signed him for five years/$120 Million. Some of the faces of the franchise have been getting older (Jeter 36, A-Rod 35, Mariano Rivera 41, and Jorge Posada 39), but who is hee hee to take a stab at the Yankees!
“Some of our core guys that we have relied on have gotten up there, but we have a group of young players that we’re excited about,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Monday at the team’s spring training complex in Tampa.
“All we care about is being called champions. You can say anything else you want about us. When you call us old, that’s fine.”

Cliff Lee told WIP Radio in Philadelphia last week that the Rangers were his second choice because “some of the Yankee guys are getting older.”
“Texas probably finished second to be honest with you. Just as far as the quality of the team and the chance to win a World Series ring, I think they’re a better team. That’s just my opinion,” Lee said Thursday, according to a transcript on SportsRadioInterviews.com.
“The Yankees can do anything at any moment to improve and they’re not afraid to go do things. That was part of the decision-making process, too, but I felt . . . like some of the Yankee guys are getting older.”
