Cotto drops Mayorga in the 12th Round

Miguel Cotto dropped the hammer on Ricardo Mayorga in the 12th round of last night’s fight to retain the 154-pound title belt. Cotto kept his distance for most of the fight saving his stuff for the final round. He connected on a vicious left hook that sent Mayorga to the floor, and he quit seconds later. Mayorga, 37, was looking for a rebirth, but could not continue the fight (due to his broken hand). It may be the last fight of Mayorga’s career; finishing with a 29-8-1 record. Cotto bested his record to 36-2 with 26 KO’s.

”It was a really good fight with an amazing finish,” Cotto said.

”I hate the way this fight ended,” Mayorga said. ”I tried to finish the final round but the pain in my hand was too much.”
