Anniversary – Wilt Chamberlain 100

Today is the 49th anniversary of Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point game. He was nicknamed ‘Wilt the Stilt’ and ‘The Big Dipper’. He started his career as a Harlem Globetrotter, and rejoined them throughout. He played on the Philadelphia Monarchs/76er’s from 1959-1968, finishing out for the LA Lakers from 68-73. He was a four-time MVP, winning two titles (1967, 1972), and a NBA Finals MVP in 1972. Wilt was the only player to average more than 40 to 50 points per game in a season, and of course scored 100 points in a game. He still is the all-time leading scorer, rebounder, and highest field-goal percentage.

He paved the way for changes such as widening the lane and rules on inbounds passes and free-throws.

<After his basketball career, Chamberlain played volleyball in the short-lived International Volleyball Association, was president of this organization and enshrined in the IVA Hall of Fame for his contributions. Chamberlain was also a successful businessman, authored several books and appeared in the movie Conan the Destroyer. He was a lifelong bachelor and became notorious for his claim to have had sex with 20,000 women, a statement which has entered popular culture.> (exact from full article, link courtesy wikipedia)
