Video: ‘Idiot With a Tripod’ Short Film Documents NY Blizzard

Filmmaker in Astoria, Queens, Jamie Stuart, grabbed his camera at home during the East Coast blizzard on December 26 and got creative. He ended up with a live-action short film titled “Idiot with a Tripod.”

After editing the video he emailed it to Roger Ebert who said, in his blog, that Stuart deserves to win an Academy Award for best live-action short subject.

Ebert said it was deserving, because of its quality and because it pays homage to early cinematography. He said, “It is directly inspired by Dziga Vertov’s 1929 silent classic ‘Man With a Movie Camera.'”

Ebert also said, “You can tell from the cinematography he knew exactly what he was doing and how to do it,” adding, “Any professional will tell you the talent exhibited here is extraordinary.”
