Oprah Winfrey: “I’m Not a Lesbian” (Video)
Barbara Walters’ 60-minute special with Oprah Winfrey was much more than her affirmation that she and her best friend Gayle King are not lesbian lovers, but it surely made great headlines all week long.
Oprah said, “I’m not lesbian. I’m not even kind of lesbian and the reason why it irritates me is because it means somebody must thing I’m lying…why would you want to hide it. That is not the way I run my life.”
When speaking about Gayle, her emotional response showed how significant their friendship has been. “She is the mother I never had, she is the sister everybody would want.” On the verge of crying, Oprah said, “She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don’t know a better person. I dont know a better person.”
Clearly upset at her flooding tears, Oprah continued, “The therapy that I didn’t have and the therapy that I don’t need is because of my thousand and thousands of hours on the phone with Gayle…”
Oprah’s interview was so heartfelt and it helps you to see Oprah’s own view of her career, all of the people in her life and the impact that she has on the world.
