Buju Gets Grammy Nod and More
Things are looking up for Buju Banton.
He was nominated in the Best Reggae Album category for his latest project and ninth studio album, “Before the Dawn.”
Last month, Buju was released from prison after a year behind bars and he is out on bail until his retrial, which is scheduled for Feb. 2011.
Until then, Buju will get straight back to the stage.
On Nov 23, his lawyers asked the judge permission for Buju to perform while awaiting his retrial next year, but they were denied.
Yesterday, he won the appeal against that order and he is already set to perform next month.
On January 16, Buju Banton will perform in Miami at the Bay Front Amphitheatre in a concert called “Before the Dawn.”
The Grammys air on Feb. 13, the same month as his retrial. Let’s hope Buju does not wait in vain.
The other nominees in the category are the late Gregory Isaacs & King Isaac, Andrew Tosh, Sly Robbie & the Taxi Gang, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, and Bob Sinclair & Sly Robbie.
This is Buju’s fifth Grammy nomination.
