Nicki Minaj Wants To Go Home for Carnival

It’s like Kevin Lyttle’s 2008 song Home for Carnival. He sings, “I cant miss the festival again/ I’m coming home, home for carnival.” There’s something about being back in the environment that brings you back to your roots.

After performing this weekend in Trininad, it seems like Nicki Minaj found a deeper love for her home country.

Nicki told the crowd that she has never been to T&T Carnival and is almost positive that she’ll be back in March for Carnival 2011.

According to the Trinidad Guardian, Nicki shouted to the audience, “Show me how to wine,” admitting that she doesn’t really know how to do the dance.

It’s absolutely imperative that West Indians know how to wine and wuk up, So in good fun, she invited a few volunteers on stage to show her how to ‘wine like a Trini…’

“The Localize it Concert” was held at Trinidad’s national Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain and it brought in estimated 3,500 people, according to the Guardian.

She opened up her set with “Itty Bitty Piggy” and continued to perform all her big singles and features. She closed the show with “Monster” and also told her ‘barbies’ to go to school and stay in school. “Ladies, don’t depend on a man for anything. Get your own!”

Nicki also said, “This is the most emotional show I’ve ever had to do,” She continued, “I don’t even know how I’m holding up. It’s been a long time coming back here and you guys have treated me so beautifully, I really couldn’t ask for anything more”.

Minaj came onto the stage with all of her Trini relatives that she’d just reunited with. She left T&T when she was five years old.

Hopefully Nicki returns to Trinidad often now that she’s received such a warm welcome. Carnival 2011 in Trinidad awaits!
